E-bikes are expensive, heavy and full of electronics — none of which sits well with a standard industrial powder-coat shop. DentDash respray e-bike and electric mountain bike frames using automotive wet spray, the same low-temperature process we use on cars. Battery, motor and electronics come off, the frame is properly prepped and colour-matched, then everything is put back on. Why E-Bikes Need Specialist Repainting
An e-bike isn't just a bike with a battery clipped on. There's a motor bonded or bolted into the frame, sealed wiring runs, a display, a controller, bearings and often internal cable routing. Industrial powder coating bakes the paint on in an oven at 150–200°C — that heat will damage electronics, degrade bonded joints and cook grease out of bearings. It's the wrong process for an e-bike.
Automotive wet spray cures at room temperature. That means we can strip, prime, colour-match and lacquer your e-bike frame without exposing any of the electric drivetrain to heat. The finish is the same standard we lay down on cars — thin, glossy, factory colour-matched.
How We Handle the Motor, Battery and Electronics
Before any prep starts, the battery is removed and stored safely. Where possible, we also remove the motor, display, controller and any exposed wiring so nothing sits near paint or solvents. Anything that can't easily come off is masked to a proper standard. Bearings, threads, seatpost bores and cable ports are all masked so the frame goes back together cleanly.
Once the paint has cured, everything is refitted, torqued and checked. The bike leaves ready to ride.
Full Respray vs Touch-In
Not every e-bike needs stripping back. If you've got a few scuffs, a chainstay strike or a scratch through to primer, a spot touch-in with a proper colour-match will restore the frame at a fraction of the full respray cost. Where you want a new colour, custom fade, or the paint is chipped in multiple places, a full respray is the sensible route. Send photos and we'll tell you honestly which one you need.

Posting an e-bike is a real hassle: heavy box, expensive insurance, and every year specialist forums fill up with couriered frames arriving damaged. DentDash collects and returns anywhere within 25 miles of Tiverton — Exeter, Crediton, Cullompton, Wellington, Honiton, Bampton, South Molton and every village in between.
